Freedom Scholars Learning Center
The Freedom Scholars Learning Center enables children grades PreK-8 and families from communities under pressure to build and secure academic, social, cultural, economic and environmental literacies to support pathways for their school and life success.
Our vision is that underserved children and families in our neighborhoods grow up with the confidence and support to reach their full potentials, able to fully participate in and contribute to their communities.
At the heart of all our programs is a multi-pronged approach to scholar development, centering literacy, cultural pedagogy, mentoring, leadership development, and professional development. Our approach values authentic learning and is child-centered and affirming, non-judgemental and restorative, highly collaborative, and evidence-based.
This year, a few key accomplishments include:
Launching an after-school pilot program - “Seeds Sowers & Storytellers.”
Launching the 2nd year of summer literacy and first-ever Pre-K level Freedom School summer literacy enrichment
Social Action Week: Dismantling Racist Curriculum
Over 50 different books were read during the FSLC Summer Literacy program
