Amplifying the power of Out-of-School Time

Our goal is to strengthen the quality, quantity, and accessibility of out-of-school time programs in Monroe County for school-age youth through community collaboration.

The Case for Out-of-School Time (OST)

For years, afterschool and summer programs have kept kids safe, inspired them to learn, and offered parents peace of mind that their children are constructively engaged in the hours between the end of the school day and when parents return from work. Recent research found that children who participated in quality early childcare and then went on to participate in afterschool programs saw a positive cumulative effect on their academic achievement in math and reading at age 15.

Youth who participate in OST programs…

By the Numbers

School-age kids spend 80% of their waking hours outside of school. With increased learning potential, performance in school, and a reduction in risky behaviors, every dollar invested in OST programs saves at least three.

For every student in OST, 4 more are waiting to get in (in New York State). Nearly 20 million students are waiting for an OST program (in New York State).

But don’t just take our word for it.
We’ll let the data do the talking.
